O Shove

Jenni O Shove is a girl I want you to meet.  She’s feisty, rude, dirty, brave, kind and curious as well as being entirely alone. The only family she knows is the travelling fairground, Farley’s Fair. She spends her days keeping away from her uncle’s fists and playing with her only friend, Bingo the dog.

Farley’s Fair has arrived on Peckham Rye for a week, and Jenni and Bingo go off looking for food. Jenni decides never to go back.

As always, I had no clear idea about how Jenni would cope. To my delight she proved to be even tougher than I had envisaged, and having lived amongst the worst of people she finds herself rescued by the best. I made myself laugh out loud, and then blub uncontrollably. It’s been a long time in the writing. She’s my favourite character so far!

I’ve read it to children in school, and shared it with readers of all ages. It demands to be heard!

This is a manuscript waiting for some lucky publisher to snap it up.
